Three Billboards Across New York State...
Updated: Jun 20, 2018
The critically acclaimed film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbings, Missouri was the inspiration for this real-life NY Loves Kids project.
The Cast: Bridie Farrell & Amelia Tramontano
The Setting: Winter in Buffalo, NY
The Plot: Two advocates travel across New York State to publicly ask New York State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan why he hasn’t held a vote for the Child Victims Act when 90% of New Yorkers support the bill according to a Quinnipiac poll.
In March 2018, Bridie and Amelia traveled from Brooklyn, NY to Buffalo, NY to participate in a panel discussion to educate New Yorkers about the Child Victims Act. Their transportation to the event was unconventional to say the least. With three billboards affixed to a 34 foot rented RV, their messaging became mobile. Since this was their first time traveling in an RV, the heating in the RV proved intimidating.
Their apprehension to deal with propane left them traveling without heat in the RV! They weren’t hitting an RV park to stay; so running water was out of the question as well. Through the cold, with stops all around New York State, Amelia and Bridie met other survivors of child sexual abuse who were motivated to share their stories.
The project was a rewarding one; when survivors are able to find a safe space to share, change happens.
